, I connect wirelessly using my apartment’s network. Recently the landlord upgraded to a faster connection. I use it to bank online and pay bills.
The modem sits out in the common area. The next door neighbor hooked it and relocated it closer to his door. Thus he is physically connected.
Here are my questions. First, can he steal any information from me? If I am on the bank website can he see my passwords, usernames and other data? Secondly, since the modem is in closer proximity shouldn’t the signal be stronger? The networks profile shows the signal as being,
“fair” and not “excellent.” Any thoughts? Advice? O yes, my rent is inclusive. Paying for a separate connection is out of my budget.forgot to mention the guyis ameth head druggie.

First, as long as you're on a secure site your neighbor will not be able to see any passwords or info you enter, assuming he even knows how to look for stuff like that. Second, it sounds like he moved just the modem, not the router, or the equipment used for the internet there is pretty weak. It does seem a little strange that your neighbor doesn't get in trouble for moving stuff like that though, unless he's the one who runs everything.

no,he doesnt run a thing..you might be correct in stating he moved the modem..i folowed the connection to his door. it starts at what i now think is the router and is going underhis door. he is a techperson. so,he cant take a snap shot of my actions on the net?thought there was some cheap software you could install and monitor activities. ty for the insight.

It takes a little work to make something like that work, you have to know what you're doing to even try. as long as your banking site or similar is on a secure connection, meaning https in the web address, you'll be all right.

You can also set up your own firewall. You have good security program, you should be okay.
Whoever is admin can monitor, but I doubt they will.
Just make sure you are always under a secure website as posted, and keep your virus program updated.
Don't download anything you aren't sure about.

Agreed with forereal. Keep anti-virus and firewall software up-to-date, don't let your PC "remember you" when logging into sights, ensure the domain is always HTTPS and stay off the deep web unless you're well protected and you'll usually be safe.
